Swimming

For the first 2 weeks of this term we went swimming.  We had such a good time and learnt lots of new skills.  Take a look.

Fractions

We have been learning about 1/2 and 1/4. We have used paper and play dough to help us understand fractions. It's a really hard concept to get!  We have to remember that 1/2 is 1 part of 2 and 1/4 is 1 part of 4 and they all have to be the same size. Have a practise at home.

Lyric's Dad

We had Lyric's Dad, Jeremy come in to talk to us about his job.  He is a stunt actor and has worked on films like The Hobbit and Tintin.  The children were fascinated by this and enjoyed the all the photos.

(Sorry this photo won't turn around)

This is what he had to wear for Tintin.

Keeping Ourselves Safe

We have been learning about how to keep ourselves safe.  We had Chris Wiltshire from the Police come to talk to us about road safety.  We need to remember to look left and right before crossing the road.  Ask your child how else they can be safe around the road.

Public Library

Every fortnight we go to the library with our buddy class - Ricoh Room.  We each have a buddy and they walk with us to the library.  They help us choose our books and read books to us.  We really enjoy and look forward to going.  We now go fortnightly on Tuesdays at 9am.

Hebe and Mungo Ukulele

Hebe and Mungo are learning the Ukulele from John Willers.  They came into the class to show us what they have learnt.  Well dones guys!

Isabella's Puppies

On Friday afternoon Isabella's mum Robyn brought in 3 of her golden retriever puppies. We thought they were very cute and enjoyed having them come visit.

So cute!

They are heavy!

Ashleigh and Rebekah want one, Mum?

Last Hockey session

We had our last hockey session today. We played a game where some children had to knock down the cones and the rest of the children had to pick them up.

We played a game like musical chairs but with hockey sticks. When the whistle was blown we had to run to a stick and make the hockey position.

Our hockey positions. We have learnt so much.

Before we play a game we practise passing the ball to our partner, remembering to stop it first.

Then we play a game of hockey.

Thank you Michelle we loved playing hockey.

If you want to play hockey there are free sessions called fun sticks on Saturday morning. You don't even need your own stick.

Here is the information from the last newsletter.

In Rothbury Room we are having a super star writer each day.

Today we have Rhys Patterson.  He has been working hard at using his sounds to spell unknown words and trying to remember finger spaces.  This is his best writing yet, Well done Rhys.

Ferrymead

On Tuesday the 26th March, the junior area got up early and took a bus to Ferrymead.  The children got to experience what it would have been like in the early 1900's.  They really enjoyed it and were very well behaved.
Thank you to Mary Stewart, Nerida Jemmet and Sheree McKay for coming along and being parent help.

Take a look at the photos to see what we got up to.

Maths - Statistics

We have been learning about pictographs and tally charts.  We made graphs using M&Ms and found out the yellow and green M&M's were the least amount while brown and blue were the most.  At the end we were allowed to eat them, Yum!
